A school in Hopewell believes it has resolved what it calls a very unusual problem. Hopewell High School experienced problems with the air conditioning yesterday. A leak was reported in the morning in a pipe from the geothermal system that feeds water to the AC units. A welder was called to fix the leak, but another leak developed. That leak was fixed, but then there was a third leak. Officials say they thought about closing the school, but it was already 1:30, and the logistics of organizing an early dismissal would have taken at least an hour, and by then, it would have been time for regular dismissal. So, classes continued with temperatures in the mid-70s before students were dismissed at 3:00. The leak was fixed by 4:00, and the system was checked early this morning. If problems persist, families will be notified.

Senator Tim Kaine co-sponsored a bill aimed at ending homelessness for the country's veterans. The Housing for All Veterans Act would provide veterans with access to housing vouchers to protect them from housing discrimination. Kaine, formerly a fair housing lawyer, tells WAVY it is important to support veterans as they transition to civilian life and ensure they have a safe place to call home. The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs reported a significant decrease in veteran homelessness since the implementation of a strategic plan in 2010. Kaine also co-sponsored the Veterans Housing Stability Act of 2024 to assist veterans and active servicemembers with mortgage payments.
