A judge strikes down an affordable housing plan in Arlington County. The concept, marketed as the "Missing Middle Plan", would have encouraged developers to tear down older homes and build duplexes, townhomes, and small apartments in single-family home residential-zoned areas, but the judge found that county officials did not adequately assess the impacts of the proposal. WTOP reports the court ordered the county to halt issuing building permits for such projects, and the county is expected to appeal the decision. The plan faced opposition from homeowners who raised concerns about infrastructure and traffic.
Nearly half of Americans say they feel lonely at least sometimes. That's according to the latest Household Pulse Survey, which looks at Americans' financial and economic wellbeing, among other topics. Forty-point-three-percent of U.S. adults reported experiencing feelings of loneliness at least sometimes. Alaska had the highest rates of loneliness, followed by Oregon and Virginia. The states with the lowest were Iowa, Delaware and Wisconsin.
