The mayor of Newport News hopes he can work with city planners to find a way forward with a proposed apartment complex after officials voted it down.  
NBA legend and Newport News native Allen Iverson supports the project that would include 120 dwelling units and traffic improvements.

WAVY reports councilman Curtis Bethany III voted against the project, citing the need to review the comprehensive land plan and questioning the community's rental versus ownership balance.  
 
The Louisa County Animal Shelter says it is now offering free adoptions due to overcrowding. The shelter released a statement yesterday saying they are at critical full capacity and are offering adoptions free of charge in order to make more space. The shelter also adds they can no longer take in new animals needing shelter. They are also asking for help fostering animals. The shelter says a list of available adoptable animals is on their website, or you can visit the shelter in person.
