Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is proposing a bill to reverse tariffs on Canada. President Trump has urged Republican senators to vote against it. The bill would essentially end an emergency declaration put forth by the Trump administration to impose tariffs on Canada. Trump says doing so would stop the flow of fentanyl into the country. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol say the majority of fentanyl comes to the U.S. through the southern border with Mexico. They say less than one-percent of the drug has been seized at the Canadian border.

Dominion Energy has proposed rate increases for customers in the Commonwealth. The energy company filed a proposal with the Virginia State Corporation Commissions earlier this week. They cite inflation as one of the primary reasons. The increases would be Dominion's first base rate increase since 1992. If the proposal is approved, the base rate increase will be around eight-dollars and-51 cents per month in 2026, and two-dollars per month in 2027 for most customers. The new fuel rates would go into effect on July 1st of this year, and new base rates would take effect on January 1st of next year.
