Virginia's amended version of a record-sealing law is set to take effect next summer. The law will allow people with past criminal convictions to have their record sealed from public viewing. Supporters of the bill say it will allow people with low-level offenses to have more job opportunities and be able to better support their families. Landlords, potential employers, and schools will not be allowed to ask or obtain a sealed record.

Virginia has officially banned tianeptine, also known as gas station heroin. The substance has been classified as a schedule I drug making it illegal to sell in the state. Tianeptine is used as an antidepressant overseas. It is not approved by the FDA in the U.S. Poison control centers say calls concerning overdoses of the drug have risen since 2015.
