Roanoke County high school teacher, Matthew Neale, was named the 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year, recognized for his excellence in the classroom and leadership in the education community. Neale, known for his 'ASK' philosophy, revitalized the Hidden Valley High School journalism program and is committed to public service initiatives. Governor Glenn Youngkin praised Neale's dedication to his students and the teaching profession. WRIC reports that Neale will now represent Virginia in the National Teacher of the Year competition, with the winner to be announced at a White House ceremony next spring.
