Governor Youngkin has signed a new bill that will allow localities to pass ordinances requiring the property owner's signature or it's agent before a towing company can tow a car. House Bill 959 will also increase the penalty that the Attorney General can collect from towing operators that break the law to 10 times the amount charged. The new law will allow regulating the monitoring practices of tow companies. Virginia House Delegate Alfonso Lopez sponsored the bill. The new law takes into effect this July.
A bus service in Prince William County is asking for help closing a 16-million-dollar deficit. OmniRide is telling county leaders that the fuel tax that helps subsidize its service is not generating enough revenue to cover its needs. Members of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors say the county can't afford full funding for the bus service, with some accusing OmniRide of growing too much and needing to cut spending. The commission that controls the bus service says it will have to implement service cuts if the county doesn't contribute more to its operation.
