Lifeguards in Virginia Beach have reported a relatively safe Memorial Day Holiday weekend. They reported only two water rescues throughout the weekend, and said they reunited 25 lost children with their parents. Chief of the Virginia Beach Lifesaving Service, Tom Gill, tells WVEC-TV despite large crowds Saturday and Sunday, they had a great overall first weekend. Gill says last summer, they rescued around 831 people in the water. Gill reminds beachgoers to listen to lifeguards in the water and to avoid swimming alone.

It may cost a little more to buy blue crabs this summer. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources released a survey last week that showed the number of blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay had declined slightly from last year. Though the number of crabs dropped by about six-million, the agency says the crab population is healthy and that people shouldn't stop buying and eating them. Restaurant owners say crab prices have gone up recently, mainly due to inflation and a lack of high-quality, early-season crabs.
