The City of Alexandria has a new police chief. The city announced the appointment of Tarrick McGuire yesterday. McGuire comes to Virginia from Arlington, Texas, where he most recently served as the assistant police chief. He will begin working in Alexandria on November 25th.
Richmond's mayor believes the city may have found a way to reduce youth violence.Preview: Juvenile Justice Advocate Valerie Slater, of RISE for Youth, tells CBS6 that last year, the city only had three operational, state-funded youth programs. Mayor Levar Stoney said yesterday youth violence is down because of quality afterschool programs that receive extra funding from the city's Parks and Rec program and the library staying open longer. Police Chief Rick Edwards says the data shows the number of kids shot in Richmond has dropped from 55 in 2017 to 19 this year.
