A program run by Richmond Police could lead to better relations with the Hispanic community. The RPD held a graduation ceremony yesterday for its 29th Hispanic Citizens Academy. The course allows attendees to learn what resources are available to them, how to protect themselves and how the police department operates. One graduate tells 8News she feels a greater trust, greater safety, and she doesn't think twice now about contacting police if something happens.  
 
 
Nearly 500 Virginia schools are getting funding to upgrade their security. The Virginia Department of Education announced the award of 12-million dollars in School Security Equipment Grants yesterday. The grants will be spread across 96 school districts and 472 schools, and will pay for internal communication systems, visitor ID systems, cameras and other improvements.
