A circuit court judge has ordered Waynesboro election officials to certify the results of Tuesday's election. Monday's ruling came after two members of the Waynesboro election board filed suit against the state in a bid to have all votes hand-counted. The judge ruled in favor of a countersuit by five Waynesboro residents, saying the personal beliefs of members of the board of elections "cannot derail the electoral process for the entire Commonwealth."
A second person is in custody after a shooting in Chesterfield County. Police arrested Oscar Armando Barrera on Monday. The 25-year-old was wanted for an incident Sunday. He was in a car police tried to stop as part of a larceny investigation. The driver refused to pull over, though, and a passenger shot at the officer who was trying to stop them. No one was hit, and the driver kept going until the car crashed. One suspect was arrested at the scene, but Barrera took off. The two are facing charges that include attempted aggravated murder, plus drug and gun charges.
