High winds are being blamed for thousands of power outages in the DMV. Dominion Energy crews were hard at work in northern Virginia yesterday evening after more than 40-thousand customers reportedly lost power. Fire departments in the DC region were also responding to calls about trees and power lines blown down by the wind. Several houses were damaged by falling trees but no injuries were reported.

At least one in five American women over the age of 50 have osteoporosis, but many don't know it. Updated guidelines from the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommend women 65 and older to have a bone density scan to screen for the bone disease. Osteoporosis is often described as a "silent disease" because there are few, if any, symptoms until someone fractures a bone -- usually in the hip, wrist or spine. Women who have gone through menopause are at highest risk of bone loss, although it can also affect men.
