Hanover County's appointed boards and commissions have not received a pay increase in over a decade, but that may soon change as county staff studied compensation in other Virginia localities to determine the pay gap. The study found that several of Hanover's boards are behind the market in terms of compensation, according to VPM dot com. For example, members of the planning commission make $10,000 annually, while their counterparts in neighboring counties make significantly more. Recommendations have been made to adjust salaries to bring them more in line with the market, with potential changes expected to be discussed at the board's May meeting.
