Groundbreaking on Richmond's new baseball stadium isn't far away. A ceremony next Friday, August 9th, will mark the official groundbreaking, and at least one city official can't wait. City Council Member Andreas Addison says he wants shovels in the ground as soon as possible. He also tells 8News it's important to have that opening day to really bring the community together in this new amazing space.
Consumer confidence numbers rose slightly in July. The Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index edged slightly higher from a downwardly revised June reading. The board's chief economist said worries about elevated prices and interest rates along with uncertainty about the future are still weighing on overall confidence. The survey noted purchasing plans for homes during the next six months fell to a 12-year low in July. Consumers also said they plan to spend less on many discretionary items including amusement parks and personal travel.
