The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is launching a new public service campaign in hopes of reducing pedestrian deaths and injuries. The campaign notes that drivers are more likely to stop for a family of ducks crossing the road than human pedestrians. It urges pedestrians to look carefully before crossing streets because "you are not a duck." The campaign is being rolled out in October for National Pedestrian Safety Month.

A group representing survivors of crime in the U.S. is demanding action from Congress. The first-ever Crime Survivors Speak March was held yesterday in Washington, D.C. Thousand of crime victims from 30 states took part in a march that ended with a rally at the U.S. Capitol building. Organizers say Congress needs to do more to help victims and survivors deal with the aftermath of violent crime. They also hope to lobby congressional leaders to advocate for more crime prevention and gun safety legislation.
