A former Virginia police officer will spend less time in prison after being resentenced for his role in the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot. Thomas Robertson will now serve six years in prison following his resentencing yesterday. The former Rocky Mount police officer is the first January 6th defendant to be resentenced after a U.S. Supreme Court decision narrowed the use of an obstruction statute earlier this year. He was originally sentenced to 87 months in prison in 2022.

Virginia's national parks are generating big dollars for local communities around the state. A recent report from the National Park Service indicates more the 23-million people visited parks in Virginia in 2023. Those visits translated into one-point-five-billion dollars in local spending and over 21-thousand jobs. Virginia ranked fifth overall in the U.S. for total visitor spending last year, trailing California, North Carolina, Utah and Alaska.
