Two drivers are in the hospital after a crash in Fairfax County that left their cars in very precarious positions. The two vehicles collided at the corner of Roberts Road and Collingham Drive in Kings Park West around 6:00 Wednesday evening. The crash left one car on its side and the second balanced against it with its rear in the air and nose in the ground. Technical rescue units had to be called in to stabilize the vehicles before the drivers could be freed.
The National Park Service says the Virginia portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway could reopen sometime next week. The park service issued an update about repair and reopening efforts for the Parkway yesterday. Officials called the damage in some parts of North Carolina "catastrophic" and could not give an estimate of how long repairs could take. The park service is also reminding the public that the current closure applies to all vehicles and uses, and any unauthorized entry will slow the work of reopening the Parkway.
