A Powhatan man is guilty of scamming the federal government. The Justice Department announced yesterday that Richard Davis was convicted of healthcare fraud. The 51-year-old owns Innovative Family Services LLC, which is a Medicaid provider. Prosecutors alleged Davis directed his employees to bill for services Medicaid doesn't cover. This went on for four years, and it cost Medicaid over 200-thousand dollars. Davis will be sentenced in February, and he could get up to ten years in prison.

Hunters in Virginia State Parks will have the chance to participate in managed deer hunts to help control the deer population. Reservations for hunting stands or zones can be made online starting on September 3rd, with registration opening for individual parks throughout September. WRIC reports a $15 dollar fee is required to reserve a spot. Specific rules and regulations for each park can be found on the Department of Conservation and Recreation's website. For those without internet access, reservations can be made by phone.
