Dozens of chickens were rescued and a suspect arrested in Virginia after an illegal cockfighting ring was discovered by the Stafford County Sheriffs. Deputies found large chickens at a home on Norman Road, leading to a second search where 80 game fowl chickens were seized along with controlled substances, equipment, and weapons. Fox 5 Washinfton D.C reports that 47 year old Sergio Munoz was arrested, and the chickens palceds were placed in Animal Control custody.
Richmond Animal Care and Control is expanding with a new $2 million dollar investment approved by the city council for a new adoption center on West Cary Street. The decision will help alleviate the pressure on RACC's current shelter operating at full capacity. WRIC reports that the goal of opening the new shelter by next year.
