A small town in Virginia has voted to keep funding its police department. The town council of Purcellville voted earlier this month to fully fund the department through fiscal year 2026. The population of the town is about nine thousand people and town officials considered defunding the police department to cut costs. Residents spoke out on the defunding plan saying emergency response times for the town would suffer if the police department was removed.
Students in Virginia Beach are speaking out on the suspension of DEI programs at public schools. More than 100 people spoke at the Virginia Beach School Board meeting to voice their opinion on the recent suspension of the programs. The board voted to suspend DEI initiatives at schools in order to continue receiving federal funding. The board welcomed everyone who attended to speak on the issue, but say their decision still stands.
