A Virginian Man now convicted and waiting for sentencing for killing a someone who mistakenly knocked on his door. A Norfolk jury has found 74-year-old Leroy King guilty of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of murder for killing 38-year-old Albert Patrick Johnson in 2023. Johnson was mistakenly shot by King after knocking on his apartment door while trying to visit a neighbor. WAVY reports that King shot Johnson twice, resulting in his death at the scene. King pleaded not guilty but was convicted by the jury. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 11.
Eight people have been displaced after an apartment fire in Virginia Beach early Thursday morning. The fire, caused by an unattended candle, occurred in the 5500 block of Bantry Lane around 12:25 a.m. WAVY reports that that Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and residents were safely evacuated with no injuries reported. The incident was under control by 1:04 a.m.
