Officials in Northern Virginia are asking for help from the federal government amid growing layoffs initiated from the Trump administration. Fairfax County Board Chairman Jeff McKay asked lawmakers Tuesday to begin emergency legislation in order to avoid large clusters of recently laid off government workers to leave the state. Large numbers of government employees call suburban areas in Virginia, like Fairfax County, home while working in D.C. As of yesterday, more than 13-hundred federal employees have filed unemployment insurance claims with the Virginia Employment Commission.
Virginia Beach City Public Schools has decided to suspend DEI initiatives in response to the Trump Administration's Executive Order threatening to cut federal education funding for schools that do not comply. The resolution was adopted in a 6-3 vote. Schools have until April 11 to decide whether to meet the certification deadline outlined in the executive order.
