Governor Youngkin wants the General Assembly to accept over 200 modifications to the state's next budget. The governor announced yesterday that he will not veto the budget approved by state lawmakers but is instead proposing a series of amendments he calls the "Common Ground Budget." His proposal would offer a three-percent raise to teachers and state employees and an additional 21-billion in funding for education. It would also restore 230-million dollars in priority spending items sought by the governor in his original budget package. Youngkin said he is no longer seeking the tax cuts he proposed in December, but added that he won't approve a budget that raises taxes in the Commonwealth. State lawmakers will return to Richmond on April 17th to consider the governor's amendments and vetoes.

The man who pled guilty to killing a teenager in Richmond now wants to withdraw his plea. Amari Pollard pled guilty in February to charges that include first-degree murder. He was accused of shooting to death an 18-year-old who just graduated from Huguenot High School in June. The 20-year-old Pollard was sentenced to 43 years in prison. His lawyer, though, recently filed the necessary paperwork to rescind the guilty plea. Attorney Jason Anthony says the judge erred, and Anthony says he erred himself. He also says you can't have that many errors and still have justice.
