There were heavy storms in several parts of the Virginia. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Salem on Sunday. Maximum wind speeds were about 105-miles an hour and there were reports of damage to homes and other buildings, along with down trees and power lines. More surveying of damage is being done today.

One of the last of the Tuskegee Airmen has passed away. Colonel Porcher Taylor, Jr. died yesterday at the age of 99. He was from Petersburg and served in World War Two, Korea and Vietnam. Taylor earned the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. After he left the military, he got a PhD in psychology and worked at Virginia State University as a professor and administrator. VSU wrote on Facebook that he was a valued member of the Trojan family, and they'll continue to honor his legacy. Petersburg Mayor Sam Parham said Taylor will be remembered for his profound and endless contributions to the city.
