Dentists across Virginia are reporting a dental hygienist shortage. According to the Virginia Dental Association, there are more dentists in the state than hygienists. They found the number imbalance impacts patient care and wait-list times. National surveys are also showing that dentists are taking on more tasks traditionally done by hygienists since the pandemic. The greatest dentist-hygienist ratio imbalance has been found in Richmond and Henrico. The VDA says hygienist programs in the state need to be expanded in order to meet future demand.
A Powhatan man arrested in Turks and Caicos last week is reportedly headed home after posting bail. Tyler Wenrich was arrested after officers with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force found two bullets in his luggage. His family said bail was posted yesterday, though Wenrich will have to return to the island next month for a court hearing. Wenrich is one of three Americans recently arrested by island authorities after ammunition was found in their luggage. He could face a minimum mandatory sentence of up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
