The man who initially pled guilty to a deadly shooting at the Huguenot High School graduation last summer will be in court next week after withdrawing the plea. WRIC-TV reports that Amari Pollard's attorney withdrew the guilty plea saying Pollard had shot 18-year-old Shawn Jackson because he feared for his life. A judge denied a self-defense plea, but Pollard's attorneys believe the judge erred in that decision. Pollard will now be in court for a motion hearing May 17.
Nurses in the DC area find it hard to make ends meet due to the cost of living, taxes and other factors. With this being National Nurses Week, a recent study by the financial website MoneyGeek ranks the DC-Alexandria-Arlington area as the toughest place for nurses to live in the U.S. The study took the pre-tax salary of area nurses and then figured out actual take-home pay based on taxes and the cost of living. Nurses in the DC area have an average annual salary of 98-thousand dollars, but only take home about 48-thousand dollars after taxes and cost of living are factored in. Honolulu, Hawaii and the Boston area ranked second and third in the study.
