Early voting is underway in Virginia. The presidential race is getting the most attention, but a casino referendum in Petersburg is also drawing interest. The Cornish Company held a pep rally yesterday to get people to vote 'Yes.' They say a casino could generate over a billion dollars for the city and even more for the whole area. There is strong opposition, though. One man tells CBS 6 he's not convinced all the promises developers are making will be realized.

An audit on the Office of Emergency Medical Services in Virginia shows millions of dollars of misappropriated funds due to years of mismanagement. The Virginia Department of Health began the audit back in July of 2023. The audit found around 33-million-dollars is mismanaged funds. This includes around four-million-dollars of fraud, which was turned over to the Office of the Inspector General, the U.S. Attorney's Office, and the Virginia State Police.

The First Lady of Virginia is warning young people about the dangers of social media and phone use. Suzanne Youngkin held the discussion at Richmond Community High last night. She also spoke with Dr. Jonathan Haidt, author of the book "The Anxious Generation: How the great rewiring of childhood is causing an epidemic of mental illness." Dr. Haidt said his book explains how kids using phones too much can impact maturity, mental growth, and their ability to learn. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) released their final cell phone-free education plan this week.
