Helene made landfall in Florida as a category four hurricane, has been downgraded to a tropical storm and now its remanence continues to impact parts of Virginia with rain and gusty winds. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 6p.m. for Chesapeake, Franklin, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Greensville, Isle of Wight, James City and Southampton.

Vice President Harris may be putting Virginia out of reach for former President Trump. A new poll by Emerson College shows Harris leading Trump by eight points in the state. Randolph-Macon Political Science Professor Richard Meagher says the poll shows Democrats seem energized, and Harris should be able to win the state fairly comfortably. In the senate race, Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine leads Republican Hung Cao [[cow]] by ten points.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares says a Georgia company is trying to get around the state's ban on skill games. Miyares sent a letter to law enforcement this week outlining his problem with "Queen of Virginia" skill games. Virginia retailers are reportedly being told that the games are legal because they don't have a payment slot. The attorney general says he's investigated those claims and has determined the games still violate state law.
