As temperatures plummet in Southwest Virginia, a warming shelter in Pulaski is providing 24/7 refuge for those in need. The shelter, a collaborative effort between Pulaski Emergency Management, the City of Refuge, and the Pulaski Ministerial Association, offers warmth, meals, and support to vulnerable individuals. Initially opened during snowstorms, WDBJ reports the shelter now operates continuously to address the growing demand for assistance.  
 
 
A state lawmaker wants to cap the amount Virginians have to pay for using toll roads. Delegate Candi Murdon King introduced the bill last year but was unable to get enough support to advance the proposal. The Prince William Democrat wants to limit the maximum amount of tolls that can be charged each month to 200 dollars per person. The bill would also eliminate tolls for Virginians who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. The bill has been assigned to the Committee on Transportation for consideration.  
 
 
Two cranes at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Chesterfield County have died after testing positive for bird flu.

Virginia students are being encouraged to use their artwork to help thank teachers for their hard work. The Virginia Lottery is teaming up with Supply Room to sponsor the eighth-annual "Thank a Teacher Art Contest."
