Brace yourself for some cold weather when you step out this morning. The National Weather Service has a Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 10:00 a.m. in Central Virginia. Wind chills overnight were expected to drop to as low as four. The NWS advises that could lead to frost bite or hypothermia.
The weather is responsible for disrupting water services in Richmond. The city issued a Boil Water Advisory yesterday afternoon. It came after the storm caused a power outage at a water plant along the James River. That led to flooding of the filter gallery, which contains critical water infrastructure. The flooding caused the city to stop water production. Mayor Danny Avula issued an update just after midnight.
Cold and dark winter weather is impacting much of the U.S., but not for long.Preview: Voters are set to go to the polls today for three Virginia General Assembly special elections.
