Virginia pays nearly $900,000 to defend a low level state employee in court.Preview: The U.S. Census Bureau says fewer Virginians moved to other states between 2022 and 2023. Just over 250-thousand Virginians left the state last year, compared to 282-thousand who moved away in 2022. The most popular destination for those moving away was Florida, followed by North Carolina and Maryland. Virginia made up for those moving away by having 276-thousand people move into the state last year. That includes about 28-thousand from Maryland and nearly 25-thousand from Florida.
Six FEMA disaster recovery centers are now open in southwest Virginia. The latest center opened Friday in Christiansburg at the Montgomery County Government Center. Other centers are currently open in Marion, Dublin, Tazewell, Damascus and Independence. FEMA has set a December 2nd deadline for applications for financial assistance related to damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
Walmart is announcing the return of their "Inflation Free Meal Deal" through the holidays. The deal is being released earlier this year and at a lower price. The deal offers 29 items including turkey, sides and dessert and will serve eight people at a cost of less than seven-dollars a person. Meals can be gifted to friends or family or donated to the Salvation Army. Items will be listed on the Walmart-dot-com-slash-Thanksgiving link. The offer will run through December 24th.
