A new poll indicates that the race for Congress in Virginia's Second District is very close. The poll conducted by the Wason Center at Christopher Newport University shows Republican Congresswoman Jen Kiggans leading Democrat Cotter Smasal by one point. Kiggans enjoyed a five-point lead over Smasal in a Wason Center poll conducted last month. The new poll shows Smasal picking up support among independent voters, an area where Kiggans enjoyed a significant lead last month. Kiggans won her 2022 race against then-Congresswoman Elaine Luria by three points.
The Chairman of the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors announced that he will continue in his position until March 2025, as per a plea agreement reached in a criminal case.Preview: The superintendent of the Virginia State Police will be leaving his post early next year. Governor Youngkin announced yesterday that Colonel Gary T. Settle plans to retire in February. Settle became superintendent in 2018 and has been with the state police for nearly 40 years. Settle issued a statement saying he would miss being part of such a talented group of dedicated men and women.
Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Law enforcement agencies around the country will provide drop-off locations for the safe disposal of prescription drugs. The goal is to keep medications from being misused, as two-thirds of people who do so get them from a friend or family member. The CDC estimates over 107-thousand people died from drug overdoses last year.
