The former superintendent of the Spotsylvania County school system is suing the school board after he was fired earlier this year. Mark Brian Taylor has accused the board and some of its members of breaching his contract and violating his First Amendment rights. Taylor was fired in March after he allegedly hired several unqualified employees and failed to provide proper supervision and evaluations. Taylor's attorneys say the school board never brought the issues to his attention. They also say Taylor's sponsorship of a conservative Christian book fair played a role in his termination.
The State wants to help make sure all drinking water is safe after Helene.Preview: The Virginia Department of Transportation is making progress on reopening roads damaged by Hurricane Helene. The agency says crews have been working around the clock to repair about 400 roads that were closed following the storm. Thirteen secondary roads and two primary roads were still closed as of yesterday. Repairs to Route 21 in Grayson County and Route 58 in Damascus are expected to take several more months.
A little more than three percent of U.S. high school students identify as transgender. That's according to the first national survey on the topic put out Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A little over two percent are also questioning their gender identity.
