A Powhatan County woman is being recognized for her devotion to civil rights. The Powhatan branch of the NAACP honored Florine Bell on Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The 93-year-old says one of her fondest memories is being in Washington, DC when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his 'I Have a Dream' speech. She says it was the most exciting time, but all these years later, the dream still hasn't been realized. Bell tells CBS 6 it takes a lot, but it's time for this dream to become a reality.
Virginia families are paying rent twice with the cost of child care. The Labor Department says parents are spending up to 15-thousand dollars or more for full-day care per child. That works out to about nine to 16 percent of their yearly pay on day care per child. Government data shows more than 13-million of the nation's 63-million parents pay for child care. Parents with infants, those living in large counties and those using a child care center over home care often end up paying more.

A Fairfax County nonprofit is looking for volunteers to help package meals for distribution in the DC area. The 25th Project needs people to help put together meals on Thursday morning at Burke Community Church. The meals assembled will be distributed to shelters and homeless encampments in the DC area.
