The Loudoun County school district says some students at Riverside High School became upset when the teacher passed around a sample of the plant during a lesson on the invention of the cotton gin. Some students reportedly began making comments about slavery, prompting complaints to the school board and the NAACP. The school district blames the teacher saying teachers should realize the subject is sensitive for some students and has reached out to parents to apologize.
