Thirty-three-year-old Essense Martin was found guilty this week and sentenced to five days in jail. The Virginia Department of Health Professions says they had received complaints about her tooth jewelry business, Essential Grillz LLC. Her business was legally permitted to offer grillz and tooth jewelry, but she performed invasive procedures like implanting composite veneers on patients. Martin is a certified dental assistant, but does not have certification to allow her to perform dental procedures like veneers. Martin has also been sentenced to serve five months and 25 days of suspended time along with 12 months of supervised probation.
The northern Virginia Blue Ridge area is bracing for a round of wintry weather that's expected to move in Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement saying spotty light freezing rain is possible across portions of the central Shenandoah Valley into the central Virginia Piedmont Tuesday morning. Forecasters are calling for freezing rain and a dusting of snow.
