The special group is making sure visitors from the North Pole are protected when they visit northern Virginia. For 26 years and counting, Santa Claus is escorted from event to event in a caravan of black SUVs staffed by volunteers from the Diplomatic Security Service, local police departments and even members of the CIA as part of their "Kringle Detail". The agency calls the yearly event a training exercise, but acknowledges that it's a fun and rewarding way to give back to the local community.
