Appalachian Power is making progress in restoring electricity to homes in southwest Virginia. Thousands of customers have been without power since storms rolled through the region last week. The utility announced last night that electricity was restored to 95-percent of its customers. About 25-thousand homes in Virginia were still without power last night, including more than five-thousand in the Roanoke area and over four-thousand in Franklin County.  
 
 
The Virginia State Police have announced the results of a week-long effort to crack down on crime around the state. The agency conducted multiple investigations between January 31st and February 7th. Nearly two-point-eight-million dollars in narcotics and three dozen firearms were seized. The state police also received new tips about illegal gambling and human trafficking during the investigation.

A bird flu vaccine for chickens now has the green light. The Department of Agriculture gave conditional approval Friday to Zoetis [[ zo-EH-tis ]], a company which started updating its vaccine in 2022. Millions of chickens have been killed over fears of exposure or for testing positive, causing a massive spike in egg prices.
