One person is dead following a helicopter crash in Pittsylvania County. Investigators say a private helicopter gave a tour on Saturday afternoon in the Whitmell School area. The helicopter crashed after the pilot dropped off the passengers who were part of the tour. The Virginia State Police said 72-year-old Paul D. Jackson was the only person killed in the crash. The state police are investigating and say that the FAA and the NTSB have been notified.

The city's Parks and Rec department and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation gathered Saturday at Fonticello Park. They planted about 250 native tree seedlings and shrubs in a 30-by-60 foot area. The city's first tiny forest will be home to 25 different tree species. A woman who lives near the forest sees the benefits. She tells 8News it'll create a habitat for insects and birds and cool down the air.
