Investigators are releasing more details about a deadly weekend shooting in Vinton. Forty-five-year-old Jordan Daniel Pierce of Salem was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder on Sunday. Authorities say Pierce was dropping off his sons at the Vinton Police Department's safe exchange zone when he shot and killed Jeffrey Carton and Brian Sledd. The shooting reportedly happened in front of the three boys, their mother and two firefighters. Pierce is being held without bond at the Roanoke County Jail.

Students have not returned to the classroom since the gas leak on January 31st. Superintendent Kim Halterman tells WDBJ the investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. Despite elevated carboxyhemoglobin levels in some individuals, the district has not identified the source of the issue. Covington Middle School will remain virtual until at least Wednesday as investigations continue.
Volkswagen is issuing a recall for over 60-thousand U.S. cars. Federal safety regulators say a faulty gear shift indicator could result in a vehicle rolling away if the parking brake is disengaged raising the crash risks. The recall includes certain 2021 to 2023 Volkswagen models and 2022 to 2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron Sportback cars.
