A Nelson County couple is facing charges following the death of their baby. First responders were called to a home in Afton in December and performed CPR on the six-week-old child. The baby died in the hospital four days later. Medical records and autopsy results were reviewed last week and led to arrest warrants for Ethan Garfield and Autumn Woods. The couple was charged with homicide and felony child abuse.

A historic Black settlement has been rezoned for new homes to be built. The farming community in Prince William County, known as "The Settlement," was one of the few areas in the U.S. where emancipated enslaved people could purchase land after the Civil War. The area was approved for rezoning last week by the county board of supervisors. The rezoning will allow more than 200 new single-family homes to be built on the property.
