Local politicians are reacting to President Biden's decision not to run in the next election cycle. Not surprisingly, Democrats are backing Kamala Harris for president. Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney wrote on X yesterday that he's looking forward to casting his vote for the vice president at next month's Democratic National Convention. Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan says she's fully endorsing Harris and says she's the most qualified to be president on Day One. Conversely, Governor Glenn Youngkin says whether it's Harris or someone else, it's the Biden-Harris Administration's weak leadership and resulting chaos around the world and here at home that's on the ballot. Virginia House Republican Leader Todd Gilbert says no matter who emerges from this mess of their own making, the Democrats will continue to make life harder, less prosperous and more dangerous for all Americans.
Police in Chester (near Richmond) are charging a city bus driver with shoplifting.Preview: Red light cameras in Portsmouth have started issuing citations for vehicles that run red lights. The cameras are located at about nine intersections throughout the city. WAVY reports drivers who fail to stop at a red light will receive a $50 citation, but no points will be added to their driving record.
Over 450 women participated in the VA All Female Ride 2024, a 37-mile ride through Virginia led by law enforcement to raise awareness and funds for Transitions Family Violence Services. The event, organized by survivors of domestic violence, raised $3,000 to support survivors with housing, emergency shelter, counseling, and court advocacy.
