The Virginia State Police say a member of the Blacksburg Town Council has been arrested for allegedly committing election fraud. The state police began investigating 24-year-old Liam Joseph Watson in March at the direction of the Virginia Attorney General's Office. A Montgomery County grand jury indicted Watson on three counts of felony election fraud and one count of illegal voting following the investigation, which is ongoing. Watson turned himself in yesterday and was released on bond.

Tornado warnings were issued around 6 p.m. yesterday as the weather service detected rotation that could indicate severe wind activity. Downed trees and power lines were reported in the area of U.S. 501 and Murphy Road after the storm. Damage was also reported in parts of Henry and Pittsylvania counties following the storm.
NORAD says it scrambled fighter jets Wednesday to intercept two Russian Tu-95 "Bear" bombers and two Chinese H-6 bombers off the coast of Alaska. In a statement, NORAD said the Russian and PRC aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.
