Over 14-thousand bottles valued at over $800-thousand dollars worth of alcohol has been stolen from Virginia's Alcohol Beverage Control Authority stores. The shoplifting epidemic in the first half of 2024 is attributed to a lack of enforcement and misconceptions, according to Barbara Staib of the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention. WRIC reports some stores are repeatedly targeted, with one store in Norfolk being burglarized 113 times. The thefts are becoming more brazen, with incidents like thieves stealing over $9,000 worth of alcohol in Fairfax County and 228 bottles in Manassas on June 13th. Virginia ABC is working to implement changes to deter and detect theft. Since the state runs the operation, it's unclear if there is a negative effect on taxpayers.

Even though it would be politicians and not American voters who may chose Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for president, some say she may soon announce her pick for running mate. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer told "CBS Mornings" Harris will likely decide on her pick to be vice president in the next week. This comes as the Democratic National Committee plans to start a virtual roll call vote to choose its presidential nominee by this Thursday.
