Governor Glenn Youngkin is thanking Virginians for supporting the family of a Smyth County deputy following a deadly Friday shooting. The governor issued a statement yesterday saying the death of Deputy Hunter Reedy was tragic and a stark reminder that members of law enforcement risk their lives every day. He also wished a speedy recovery for another deputy injured in the shooting and asked Virginians to stand united in their support of the law enforcement community and their families. The governor plans to order flags lowered to half-staff on the day of Deputy Reedy's funeral.

Black Virginia farmers are receiving part of $2 point 2 billion dollars in a payout from the USDA for discrimination. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced over $2 billion dollars awarded to nearly 45 thousand farmers around the country. National Association of Black Farmers founder John Boyd tells the Richmond Free Press the payouts are a “huge victory” for the organization and himself. Third-generation Dinwiddie farmer John Bonner also received money after he says he was denied farm loans throughout the years. The New York Post reports some farmers call the USDA the "last plantation" because of discrimination and skeptical Black farmers say these changes could be attempt by Democrats to buy the black farmer vote.
