The Virginia Beach City Council has approved a grant to help fund a new ridesharing service for the Bayside area of the city. The council voted unanimously for a 20-percent matching grant for a micro-transit service from Hampton Roads Transit. The program would charge passengers two dollars a ride in an area that includes the Newtown Road rail stop, Sentara Leigh Hospital, Kempsville Plaza Shopping Center and Virginia Wesleyan University. Hampton Roads Transit is also starting a similar service in Newport News later this month.
