Fairfax County police shot and killed a 33-year-old woman on Monday after she slashed an officer in the face with a knife inside her apartment during a welfare check. Despite attempts to communicate with her, she attacked a crisis-trained officer when she opened the door. The officer, who was injured in the attack, repeatedly warned her to step back before firing. The woman had previous interactions with police related to her mental health. The officer is being treated for his injuries.
Heavy rain is expected to cause a mess today in Central Virginia. The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in effect through late tonight. Up to three inches of rain are expected with localized amounts of up to five inches possible. The NWS warns excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

Greensville County Public Schools says they do not believe the district is in any credible danger despite a post circulating on TikTok allegedly threatening schools in Virginia as well as nationwide. Several states have reported what police are calling "hit lists" circulating on social media.
