Authorities in Amherst County found a bit more than they were looking for while executing a search warrant yesterday. Sheriff Jimmy Ayers says officers were looking for stolen items at a home in Amherst when they found an active explosive device. The home was evacuated and an explosives team was called in. The bomb was safely detonated and the incident is under investigation.

The Virginia State Police issued a critically missing adult alert yesterday for Justin Lee Cromer. The 26-year-old was last seen on Sunday and authorities believe there is a credible threat to his health and safety. Cromer is thought to be driving a maroon-colored 2001 Ford Explorer with Virginia license plates. Anyone with information is being asked to the Staunton Police Department or 911.
