A Petersburg official has an idea on how the city can address a constant problem. The city closed six streets yesterday due to flooding caused by heavy rain. A man who lives on River Street estimates this happens at least 15 times a year. DPW Director Jerry Byerly thinks one way to reduce flooding is to dredge the harbor. He says this hasn't been done in many, many years. Byerly says until the harbor is dredged the water will have nowhere to go. He tells CBS 6 one of the city's top priorities is to try and get some federal funding for the project.
A school in Fairfax has seen improved student engagement after implementing cellphone restrictions in a pilot program.Preview: The Loudoun County school system is reporting its first student overdose of the current school year. The suspected non-fatal overdose was reported yesterday and is under investigation. The district did not release any information about where the overdose happened to protect the student's identity. The school district was widely criticized for failing to release timely information about nearly a dozen fentanyl overdoses at a county high school last year. The controversy led to Governor Youngkin's decision to issue an executive order requiring all state schools to notify parents within 24 hours of a suspected overdose.
