Richmond's superintendent wants parents to be aware of what some new school categories mean. Superintendent Jason Kamras went before the school board Monday to discuss the state's new categories for schools. They are 'distinguished,' 'on-track,' 'off-track' and 'in need of intensive support.' Kamras says the labels may be misleading. For instance, he says some schools labeled 'off-track' are actually growing very fast and are much better. Kamras tells 8News he's fine with higher standards, but he wants to the state to supply the resources needed to meet those standards.
The Virginia Red Cross prepares to help and hope to victims of Hurricane Milton in Florida. Communications Director Jonathan McNamara says the organization is gearing up to provide shelter and food for those affected by the storms. He tells WRIC it is important for the Red Cross to work with other organizations, governments, churches, and local volunteers to effectively respond to the needs of the affected communities.
